TattooDoodler

As a team of 4 computer science undergraduates, we built an application for dynamic, body-centered designing of tattoos that bridges artists’ intuitive knowledge with real-time projection onto 3D body models.

It aims to offer the versatility of digital design while revolutionizing the way artists and clients are able to visualize how designs wrap to the complexities of the human body. Prototyped in Figma, built with React Native & Three.js.

I spent the summer of 2024 working with Professor Jingyi Li, Jiaju Ma, and two peers on the development of a web-based system to help novice and intermediate artists develop transferable drawing skills and improve artistic intuition.

  1. Researched existing literature on image processing, creativity support tools, and accessible design.

  2. Contributed extensively to project definition and direction.

  3. Developed scripts in Python utilizing OpenCV to extract and visualize thumbnail abstracts of the values, colors, and composition of an artwork.

Loca the Pug  &  Brawling Crocs

Video / Repository

Built a game engine in Rust for runner-type games with two of my friends, Abraham Arias and Victor Hernandez. Utilizing the engine, we created Loca the Pug (a single-player runner that supports rudimentary procedural generation) and Brawling Crocs (a multiplayer runner to play with your pals!).

Both games utilize custom sprite, object, and environment graphics made by yours truly!

ClaremontGreenshirts.com

I spent the summer of 2023 self-learning web development (HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap 5) to build an up-to-date, from scratch website for the Claremont Colleges' Ultimate Frisbee team, the Claremont Greenshirts.

It was a project of love that both tested my abilities and made clear that utilizing CS to create is where my future lies, and I am deeply grateful for it!

Bio / About Me

Howdy! I’m Ella Kim, or as I’m more commonly known these days, EK. I’m originally from Atlanta, GA, but now reside in Claremont, CA.

While I’ve been creating and experimenting with art for as long as I can remember, I never imagined I’d wind up a CS major. But, after taking my first class during sophomore year of college, my world opened up.

These days, I’m particularly excited by the incredible possibilities that are created by combining CS and Art -- especially within the realms of creativity support tools, HCI, animation, gaming, and interactive art.
